Show MIXUP THAT WAS AMUSING Humorous Nova Scotlan Unintentionally Unintention-ally Very Gravely Misled 8erlou- . Minded Glasgow Newspaper. R. M. MacGregor told the following story at a luncheon of the Scottish curlers In New Glasgow : A New Glasgow shipping firm was having built a steamship on the Clyde and gave It the name of Mlctuuc. The odd. lty of the name aroused considerable curiosity. The Nova Scotlan captain was asked the derivation of the name. Good-naturedly the captain replied that "Mlc" was for the Irish and "Mac" for the Scottish. Next day tha captain was astonished to find thla explanation of the name featured in the Herald. He sent for the reporter and explained that "MIcmnc" was tha' name of a tribe of Indians In Nova Scotia. To his further astonishment the following day the Herald carried a correction, rending as follows: "We were slightly Incorrect In git lng the derivation of the name 'Mle nine In yesterday's lssne. We now learn that the ship Is called Mlcmae after a tribe of wild Indians In Nova Scot In, who are half Irish and halt Scotch." |
