Show . GOVERNMENT 'WILL OPEN FREE SCHOOL FOR NURSES Washington, Sept. 6 A training school for woman nurses of the U. S. Public Health Service is to be established estab-lished by the Surgeon General. The schools will be open September 1 at Fort McHenry in Baltimore and at Fox Hills, Staten Island, New York. The service hospitals provide experience ex-perience in surgical nursing, including includ-ing orthopedic, eye, nose and throat; medical, including communicable, nervous and mental diseases; X-Ray and laboratory technique; experience experien-ce in the diseases of children and public health, nursing. Gynecology and obstetrics will be given in the second year or third year of the course through affiliations with civilian civil-ian hospitals. Lectures, recitations, and laboratory labora-tory work will be given in the required requir-ed subjects in each hospital training schooh The course will be three years A creSit of nine months will be given giv-en to graduates of accredited colleges and credit of three or more months to students who have two or more years in college or in approved technical tech-nical schools that include the prescribed pre-scribed courses in the sciences. Candidates should make application applica-tion in person or in writing to the Surgeon General, Washington D. C. Special consideration will be given to candidates who have taken the course in elementary hygene and home care of the sick with the Red Cross, or who served as nurses or aids in army or civilian hospitals dur-jing dur-jing the war. Candidates must be between be-tween 21 and 3 5 years of age, must pass satisfactory physical examination examina-tion and must be graduates of a recognized rec-ognized school or present evidence of an educational equivalent. No tu-tion tu-tion fee will be required and students j will be provided with quarters, subsistence, sub-sistence, laundry, and text books free, I but they must provide their own unl-! unl-! forms. A monthly allowance of $30 ; for the first two years and $50 for the third year will be made. |
