Show GOVERNOR GETS SILK 1'ORTIERES AS HISTORY GTFT Recalling not only the great World's Columbian exposition at Chicago Chi-cago in 1893, but also the days when silkraising and manufacture weij hopeful, if not exactly thriving, industries in-dustries in Utah, a set of three silk portieres was yesterday presented to Governor George H. Dern, as representative repre-sentative of the state or Utah. The presentation was by Mrs. Franklin S. Richards, who was chairman of the Chicago World's fair; Turs. Annie W. Cannon, also representing the late Mrs. Emmeline B. Wells, and Mrs. L. B McCormick, representing her moth er the late Mrs. O. J. Salisbury, who was representative of Utah on the national board of lady managers of tho fair. The portieres, entirely of Utah silk, raised and woven in Utah, are of beautiful white, which as yet shows no split or other sign of age. On U,em are embroidered the Utah sogo knot. They were accepted by Governor Gover-nor Dern andbyH.E. Cockett, sccro, tary of state, who conferred w.th tb delegation as to construction of a case for their proper preservation. |
