Show Occupation Expensive to Germany J Berlin. The allied occupation of j the Rhineland for the past four years has cost Germany 4,500,000,000 gold marks, according to a statement made to the reichstag Saturday by Minister of the Treasury Albert. This total expenditure up to the end of last year did not include expenditures for occupation of the territories taken as sanctions by the allies or the cost of maintaining the allied control com- j missions. The occupying forces in the Rhineland were more than 1 0il per cent greater than the number of : troops with which Germany garrisoned I this area before the war, said the j minister. |
