Show THE SQUARE DANCE The effort in "some large Eastern cities to revive the old square dance of our gandparents' days nray serve to relieve the tension just now observed ob-served throughout the country garding the terpsichorean art. It cannot be denied that youth .requires .re-quires action in its amusements. Age may get a mild thrill from a good book in a shady nook or a quiet ride in contemplation of the beauties of naiture. But youth will be served, and youth demand action. And it may be asserted positively, positive-ly, youth is not immoral. While the action necessary to youthful happiness happi-ness and physical development may be guided into channels which approach the risque, youth as such demands no such thing. The old square dance certainly had ,not the "thrills" of some of the modern mod-ern forms, but it was just as enjoyable. enjoy-able. It brought the sexes into healthful heal-thful and pleasurable contact and 'it utilized the great art of music two forms of amusement which have always been desirable. It might, after all, be of use to revert re-vert to the old square or 'barn dance' if for nothing more than to provide a simple, harmless novelty for those satiated with the so-called 'French' and Egyptian' wiggles and squirms. |
