Show w . GOOD SPENDERS The California Legislature has adjourned ad-journed after voting the appropriation appropria-tion of about $95,000,000 of the people's peo-ple's money. The members would have been glad to make it $100,000-000 $100,000-000 in fact, they had projects for much more, but they realized that the money could not be. had and there fore they wisely refrained. Some years back, if the Legislature had had the temerity to vote away $15,-000,000 $15,-000,000 of the public funds there would have been a visit of grim vigilantes vigi-lantes to the State capital and a line of legislators stood up before a wall. Now the Assemblymen merely laugh and exclaim: "Everybody's doing it." The taxes and assessments are expected expec-ted to bring in about $83,000,000 so that there is still a deficit of ten or twelve millions. The Governor is ex pected to veto enough of the appropriations appro-priations to bring them down to the estimated revenue. But this i3 neither nei-ther fair to him nor the State. No appropriation ap-propriation should ever be voted with out the source being known and available. av-ailable. The game of playing with other people's money and throwing it out of the window should not be possible. |
