Show CHRISTMAS BOXES I For American Expeditionary Forces in Europe By agreement between the War Department, the Post Office Department Depart-ment and Express companies, the Commanding General of the Port of Embarkation at Hoboken, New Jersey, Jer-sey, is designated as the forwarding agent for the re-routing and shipment ship-ment of all express and mail matter, intended as Christmas presents, for ultimate delivery to the American Expeditionary Forces in Europe. The express companies are heartily hearti-ly co-operating with the Department of Embarkation of the War Depart-to Depart-to facilitate to the greatest possible extent the prompt movement and delivery de-livery of Christmas boxes to our Expeditionary Ex-peditionary Forces abroad, which includes in-cludes the ambulance and aviation service taken over by the army. The special arrangements do not apply to shipments addressed to Red Cross Y. M. C. A., Knights of Columbus or other organizations outside the army. All shipments by express should be packed in wooden boxes, limited to twenty (20) pounds in weight, measure not more 'than two cubic feet in volume, be well strapped, and should have a hinged or screw top to facilitate opening and inspecting. No perishable food products, other than those enclosed in cans or glass jars, should be packed in any such shipments. ship-ments. The ' Government will undertake the transportation of the Christmas boxes from New York to the Expeditionary Expedi-tionary Forces abroad free, of charge. No export licenses, invoices or other customs papers are required. The shipment of Christmas boxes may begin immediately on the publication pub-lication of this circular and no boxes will be forwarded overseas which do not reach Commanding General at Hoboken, N. J., on or before December Decem-ber 5, 1917, therefore boxes must be shipped in plenty of time to arrive 'in New York before December 5, 1917. |
