Show ROAD BONDS , EXPLAINED Com. J. L. Griffith Tells Why They Should Be Voted Dear Editor: If you will permit me a little space in ytur most valuable paper I will endeavor to explain why Beaver county should issue bonds to the amount of fifty thousand dollars. 1st. Our county, roads are in most deplorable condition fiat, with comparatively com-paratively no grading done. Wood culverts and bridges, with an annual cost for repairs of from $1000 to $5000, which will be eliminated if the proposed bond goes into effect. 2nd. The bond will relieve an already al-ready overburdened general fund, which of itself is inadequate to take care of the ever increasing expense of the county, with no prospects of a decrease. The bonds will relieve the general fund of all county road expense for a few years and by doing this the general fund will take care of all running expenses and eventually bring itself out of a present indebtedness indebt-edness of about six thousand dollars, which would if a direct tax be levied to meet this indebtedness be a great burden to the people. On the other hand the accumulating taxable property prop-erty of Beaver county in the next twenty years will go a long way in paying off these bonds. I understand under-stand there are some misgivings in some parts of the county as to the motives of this bond issue, that a certain road leading north from Milford Mil-ford to Reed will divert the travel by way of Antelope to Fillmore to the detriment of the east end of the county. I say this for the board, this was not the motive, and that it is the sole desire of the commission to benefit the whole public by giving them good roads to travel on and not by trying to divert the travel from one section to another. We have endeavored to apportion the amounts fairly to each district for the general welfare of the whole county, as the following will show: 1st. We propose to use on the county road east from Beaver City limit to the forest reserve line for culverts and bridges, $7,000. 2nd. County road from Beaver to North Creek, $2,000. 3rd. For court house heating plant, toilets, etc., $8,100. 4th. Extension on jail, and equipments equip-ments and furnishings, $3,500. 5th. For road machinery, $3,500. 6th. Road from Murdock corner south through Greenville and west to intersect State road neart Parkinson Parkin-son hill, including cement bridges and culverts. $4,500. 7th. Cement bridge and road to Adamsville, $1,000. Sth. From Minersville south to county line, $1,000. 0th. Minersville west io Laho. $1,500. 10th. Milford to Reed, road and culverts, $3,500. 11th. Milford to Moscow, $2,500. 12th. Ncwhouse west to Beavor-Millard Beavor-Millard county line, $12.000.. Trusting this will thoroughly explain ex-plain the situatiou. and that the bond will carry by. a large majority so that we may in the near future give the public the kind of roads they rightfully deserve. Very respectfully, J. L. GRIFFITHS, Chairman County Board. |
