Show DEBATING TEAMS TO Bli ORGANIZED AT HIGH SCHOOL Mr. Bates has received information informa-tion regarding the State Debating League and has been requested to submit four questions j.o be consid-i consid-i ered for all the high schools to debate de-bate this year. He is working to establish es-tablish debating teams in the high school and has made some plans to that end. He will divide the school into two groups, the Junior and Senior Sen-ior schools and carry on a series of elimination contests. Practically all students of the school will engage in some feature of the work. It will be decided which pupils do the best work and eliminate the others. These practice debates will be given until each grade has been cut down to three members. The contests will not be a question of which side wins, 'so much as a question of .which individuals indi-viduals are best suited to remain on "the teams. Contests of the same sort will be given In assembly when the contestants contest-ants have had a little practice. For these last contests, however, the grade which makes the most points will be given a pennant and the individual indi-vidual who makes the most points will be given due recognition. The costume dance to be held at the high school gymnasium Friday night looks like a big success already. al-ready. The committees in charge are making plans for an enjoyable time for everyone. The dance will be preceded by a basketball game between the high school and town teams. Five members of the basketball team challenged whoever would play with them to a game Tuesday afternoon after-noon and were beaten by a score of '48 to 4 2. Their new suits seem , to have given them confidence, and although al-though they lost one game we feel sure they will not lose many. At a meeting of the Board of Control Con-trol on. Wednesday it was decided that something must be done about the paper and chalk throwing habit. The penalty for this offense will be to help the janitor clean the building. build-ing. This will be strictly enforced if there is occasion to do so, but it is hoped that there will be little violation viola-tion of the rule. It seems to have had an effect already. Suggestions for a year-book were made and it has been left to the student stu-dent body whether or not we shall have one. The Senior class will give. a Yama-Yama Yama-Yama dance on Friday, Dec. 7. It "will be the first real class dance of this year and will mean a good time for every one who attends. The next Lyceum number will be given on Monday, December 3rd. Teachers' Institute will be held at Beaver for three days next week, and the week will be a school holiday. The high school faculty has challenged chal-lenged the rest of the county faculties facul-ties to a basketball game one night while they are in Beaver. |
