Show i - ; Farm Bureau Is Set Up In County A budding young farm bureau was the outgrowth of & meeting held in the courtroom at Beaver Tuesday evening, February 1. Frank G. Shelly, executive secretary secre-tary of the Utah State Farm Bureau, was in charge of the meeting. meet-ing. Speakers present were Tracy Welling, chairman of the state agricultural commission and former form-er executive secretary of the state farm bureau; Vernal Bergeson, agricultural commissioner in charge of marketing; and Major George R. Henderson, recently appointed ap-pointed animal husbandry specialist special-ist with the Utah State Agricultural Agricul-tural College extension service. The speakers cited the. splendid record of the state and national farm bureaus in sponsoring projects pro-jects and legislation of great benefit bene-fit to farmers. They stressed the necessity of farmers belonging to a strong organisation to speak for and represent them in important import-ant matters, pertaining to their interests. "We are living in a highly competitive com-petitive world," declared Mr. Welling, Wel-ling, "and effective organization is essential to meet this competition." competi-tion." Under the direction of Mr. Shelly, a lively election took place, resulting in the selection of K. A. Barton, Beaver, president; Edgar Fisher, Milford, first vice-president;. vice-president;. J. Delos .Baker, Min-ersville, Min-ersville, second vice-president; and Frank D. Low, Beaver, secretary. Before the meeting adjourned a nucleus of eleven paid-up members mem-bers was formed, and the new officers of-ficers effected preliminary plans for a membership campaign. |
