Show Several U.P. Men Given Promotions Two Union Pacific general superintendents, one at Omaha and one at Kansas City, and two division di-vision superintendents, one at Omaha and one at Salt Lake City, v. ere named among 14 promotions and appointments announced by the raidroad this week. H. H. Larson, acting general manager, eastern district, states that W. J. Morrison, superintendent, superinten-dent, Utah division, since August, 11)4-2, will go to Omaha as general superintendent, Nebraska-Wyoming Nebraska-Wyoming division; and H. E. Shunway, Nebraska division super, intendent since July, 1943, will be general superintendent, Kansas-Colorado Kansas-Colorado division, with headquarters head-quarters at Kansas City, Mo. Mr. Morrison first entered service ser-vice in 1905 as a dispatcher. In 1915 he became assistant chief dispatcher dis-patcher on the Oregon Short Line and in 1936 he became a trainmaster. train-master. In 1941 he was assistant superintendent of the Los Angeles division and later that year assistant as-sistant superintendent of the Utah Utah division, becoming Utah division di-vision superintendent in August, 1942. Mr. Shunway started as a stenographer steno-grapher and clerk at North Platte in July, 1917, and after various positions in Nebraska and Wyoming Wyo-ming was named assistant superintendent, superin-tendent, first at Omaha, then Grand Island, then Omaha again. In November, 1941, he became superintendent of the Colorado division di-vision and in July, 1943, was transferred trans-ferred to Omaha as Nebraska division superintendent. Mr. Morrison, in turn, has named Elgin Hicks, assistant superintendent, superinten-dent, Nebraska division at Omaha, as Nebraska division superintendent; superinten-dent; and E. Marksheffel, general superintendent, South-Central district dis-trict at Salt Lake City, formerly of Milford,. states that V. W. Smith, former assistant superintendent, superin-tendent, Los Angeles division at Las Vegas, has been named to succeed suc-ceed Mr. Morrison as Utah division superintendent. Mr. Hicks began as a station helper on the Nebraska division in March, 1920, served as agent, telegrapher, dispatcher and trainmaster. train-master. Becoming night assistant superintendent at Omaha in October, Oc-tober, 1942, he was made assistant superintendent in August, 1943. j Mr. Smith entered service in March, 1914 at Salt Lake City as a brakeman. In April, 1920, he became a conductor and in August, 1942, a trainmaster, becoming assistant as-sistant superintendent at Las Vegas in October, 1943. iMx. Hicks announces the appointment ap-pointment of T. F. Shanahan, former assistant superintendent at North Platte, to assistant superintendent, super-intendent, Omaha; and has named R. W. MoSpadden, trainmaster at Sidney, Nebraska, to succeed Mr.: Shanahan. He also appointed L. O. Pope, safety agent at Omaha, as trainmaster at North Platte. Succeeding Mr. Smith at Las Vegas will (be D. F. Wengert, terminal trainmaster at Salt Lake, G. C. Fish, Los Angeles division superintendent, announces from Los Angeles. From Denver, F. R. Jenkins, acting Colorado division superintendent, superin-tendent, announces appointments of C. T. Alford as assistant superintendent super-intendent at Denver and J. C. Jochim as trainmaster there; while Mr. Smith at Salt Lake City announces appointment of C. C. Larkin as terminal trainmaster at Salt Lake City, and A. G. Ferguson, Fergu-son, Ross Crispino and W. W. Watts as trainmasters. |
