Show Junior Red Cross Drive Begins Soon 1 ! The American Junior Red Cross . annual enrollment for service will take place November 1-15 J. C. Smith, local chairman of the Red Cross, announces. Sherman Carter, Car-ter, principal of the Milford Elementary Ele-mentary school, will take charge of the Junior Red Cross enrollment enroll-ment in Milford. This year's goal in Milford is to enroll all schools 100 percent, they said. Mr. Smith pointed out that Junior Red Cross is also observing its twenty-fifth anniversary year of service to the communities and the nation. ; In 1917 President Woodrow Wilson Wil-son formed the Junior Red Cross by proclamation inviting the ; school boys and girls of the country to do their part in the war effort. Millions of young Americans Ameri-cans answered his call, and during World War I constructed more than 15,000,000 comfort and recreational re-creational articles for the armed forces as well as performing numerous other services. They also laid the ground work for the peace-time program which has been carried on throughout the ' years. , The value and effectiveness of the organization throughout the 1 years of its existence was point-I point-I ed out by President Roosevelt on ' the occasion of its Silver anni-; anni-; versary this September. Said the 'president in a letter: i "... I commend the American 1 Junior Red Cross for so amply justifying the faith of those who were its founders 25 years ago. I am confident that the future achievements of the organization will be ever increased. The needs of our nation at war are great. The American Junior Red Cross, because it has already proved its ability, can be counted on to assist as-sist greatly toward meeting these neotis." |
