Show Club's Director Is Taken to Task for Omission of Road Omission of the north-south highway connecting Milford and Delta from the list of highway projects to be given backing by the Associated Civic Clubs of I Southern Utah, precipitated this week's meeting of the Milford Lions club into a turbulent affair. Members of the club asked pointed questions and made remarks that left no question of the position of the club that this road is of paramount para-mount importance and of their determination de-termination to get action on the project. Principal blame for the omission of the project from ,those listed fov support by the civic clubs association associa-tion seemed to attach to Lion L. A. Wynaught, vice-president of the association, chairman of its road committee until the first of the year, and now completing his third two-year term as representative representa-tive of the Milford Lions club on the association directorate. In defense, de-fense, Lion Wynaught repeated incidents in-cidents of six or eight years ago, at which time he had drawn the attention of state and national officials of-ficials to this project. As to what he had done recently in behalf of this road, he seemed to have nothing no-thing to say, but did state that he was for the road. However, on motion of Lion M. H. Pool, duly seconded and carried with an enthusiastic en-thusiastic vote of assent, Lion President J. M. Hughes was directed direct-ed to confer with the resolutions and sifting committee of the cluo and name a committee to insure that this road project was properly presented to the Associated Civic Clubs of Southern Utah at this (Saturday's meeting. Carrying out this motion, President Hughes lat- j er announced that that committee, composed of Lions J. R. Murdock j jr., P. B. Fisher and E. L. Smith,' would take care of the matter' j Also brought to the attention of the club were reports of a feeling in Delta that Milford was not "for" i this very project, which Milford people have come to know as 91-W and which would mean so much to: western Beaver and Millard coun- j ties. In denial of this report, Lion E. R. Moody moved that, the secretary sec-retary of the club should advise ! the Delta Lions club that the Mil- ford club stood solid for this road and was taking measures to have it receive proper recognSbion by. the civic clubs association as the major project of the local club. Included in the motion was the suggestion that a copy of the letter let-ter be sent to the Delta Chronicle for publication, and both matters ; have been attended to by the sec-; retary. . j Present at the meeting Wednesday Wednes-day night were Walter G. Lunt, (Continued on last page) ' .u Lions Club Meeting (Continued from first page) Wilson Lunt and Ray Knell of. Cedar City. The former is the new, field representative of the Asso-; ciated Civic clubs and as such gave a brief talk, telling of his former residence here and expressing the thought that Milford had more advantageous things to "shout ! about" than other towns which ! are making more noise; but. a very necessary factor in the town's progress is the downing of the feeling of uncertainty which is holding the community back. Lion President Hughes told of a Boy Scout meeting to be held in j Milford next Tuesday night, vvithj prominent Scout officials in at- tendance, and urged all those who may be interested in Scouting to ibe present. Club members present at the dinner meeting Wednesday night were J. M. Hughes, C. L. Firmage, Dick Johnson, O. C. Koch, Val Yepsen, Yep-sen, E. L. Smith, A. A. Mclntyre, L. A. Wynaught, Laurence Peterson, Peter-son, S. A. Zabriskie, D. E. Kirk, ; M. H. Pool, P. B. Fisher, E. R. Moody, J. C. Root, J. R. Murdock jr. and David S. Williams. |
