Show 1U Shell Company Plans Safe Driving Crusade A national crusade against traffic traf-fic violations which cause congestion,, conges-tion,, loss of time, increase! motoring motor-ing expense and many accidents, has been launched by Shell 'dealers through coast and intermountain newspapers, according to Shell Oil company's local manager, L. A. Wynaught. A Share-the-Road club is being organized among motorists who will pledge themselves to help improve im-prove driving manners. Shell dealers deal-ers are supplying all members, free of charge, with a beautiful metal emblem to be attached above the rear license plate, showing three marine signal flags in color against a golden background. In the maritime code, these flags mean "Am giving way" in other w-ords, "I am sharing the road". The purpose of the crusade is to reduce the number of traffic violations viola-tions by "screwdrivers". A screwdriver, screw-driver, according to the Shell local manager, is the fellow who forgets all about common courtesy when he gets behind the wheel. He's the irritating chap who cuts you off at the traffic lights, double parks on busy streets, cuts in and out of line on country roads, and generally helps to make motoring both miserable and dangerous. Leading traffic authorities say that the elimination of the screwdriver screw-driver would reduce our accident and death toll more than 70 per cent. |
