Show Scouts Will Help To Gather Records Milford. Boy Scouts, under the direction of Scoutmaster Dick Forrester and acting for the local American Legion and Auxiliary, will canvass every house in every block in M'ilford, beginning July 15, in behalf of the drive to collect old phonograph records for our fighting men. The drive will continue con-tinue through the month of July. The canvass that will be made here will be duplicated nationally by others of the 11,897 posts of the Legion and the 9,007 units of the Auxiliary in every town and city. The "More Records for More of Our Fighting Men" campaign is i the second of such campaigns to i be undertaken by The American Legion and the American Legion Auxiliary. A similar campaign staged in 1942 resulted in the collection col-lection of enough old phonograph records to pay for more than 370,-000 370,-000 new discs, which have been I distributed to American fighters j around the world. The old records are sold, as scrap, to record manufacturers manu-facturers at ceiling prices, and every cent of the net proceeds is used to purchase newly-issued discs at lowest factory prices. The new campaign was undertaken by the Legion because millions of men have been added to the armed services since last summer. |
