Show Is First Milford Boy To Win Pilot's Wings First aviation cadet from Milford! Mil-ford! to win his wing-s as a pilot, Jonathan Stanley Hughes, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Hughes, was graduated June 26 at Blackland field, Texas and received his commission com-mission as a second lieutenant in the army air forces. A 1940 graduate of the Milford high school, Stanley attended the Utah State Agricultural college for two years," taking the CAA training at Logan . during his ' sophomore year and enlisting in May as an aviation cadet. Called into active service September 14. 1942, he reported at Kelly field, Texas and from there went to San Antonio for preflight training. He received his primary training at Cuero, Texas and his basic training train-ing at Waco. His advanced flying came at Blackland near Waco, and his .graduation at that field was attended at-tended by Mr. and Mrs. Hughes, their daughter, Doris, and youngest young-est son, Vernon. Lieutenant Hughes accompanied them as far as Denver on their return and left from there for Lockburn Army Air base, Columbus, Ohio, where he will get nine weeks of further training as pilot of B-17 planes. v |
