Show I v Funeral Held For Drowning Victim Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon of last week for Mrs. Maxine Kesler Fillmore, who was drowned the preceding Sunday in a boating accident on the Minersville reservoir. Her sister, sis-ter, Mrs. Mary Jane Edwards, was the only survivor of the party of three and it was due to her almost al-most super-human efforts that the body of Mts. Fillmore was recovered, recover-ed, placed in the boat and rowed to shore, using the butt of a .22 rifle as an oar. The body of Merlin Mer-lin Hansen, third member of the party, was not recovered until Tuesday afternoon of this' week. The services were held in the Milford L. D. S. ward chapel with Bishop Caryle F. Gronning officiating, offi-ciating, the speakers being former Bishop William A. Miller of Beaver, Bea-ver, former neighbor and longtime long-time friend of the family; and Mitchell Fisher. A large number of sympathizing relatives and friends were present, including several from out-of-town-. Musical numbers included a vacal duet, "In the Garden," by Mrs. Loretta Cline and Mrs. Emma Em-ma Griffiths; and two vocal solos, "In the Garden of Tomorrow," by J. M. Hughes, and "The Lord's Prayer," by Vance Fisher. Mrs. Gertrude Fisher furnished the accompaniment. ac-companiment. The opening prayer was offered by Elb Tanner and the benediction was by Bishop Gronning. Gron-ning. Glenn Blackner offered the grave dedicatory prayer in the Greenville cemetery. Maxine Kesler Fillmore was born April 19, 1918 in Greenville, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Delmar L. Kesler, the family moving to Milford when she was a babe. She received her early schooling in Milford, later going to Denver, where she took nurse training at St. Joseph's hospital. She graduated graduat-ed from that training and later took correspondence work. She- was married 11 years ago to Sam Fillmore and her husband and two children, Ted and Dick, survive her. Those who knew the unfortunate young woman well say she was happiest when doing something for someone else, especially espe-cially the sick. In adddition to her husband and. children and her parents, Mrs. Fillmore is survived by seven sisters and a brother, as follows: Mary Jane Edwards and Patricia, Beatrice, Ann, Sharen and Ray Kesler of Milford; Mrs. Loreen Kersh of Salt Lake City, and Mrs. Kathleen Miller of Oakland, California; Cali-fornia; and two grandmothers, Mrs. Jane Blackner of Greenville and Mrs. Loten Kesler of Los Angeles. |
