Show i ! June Meeting Held By Wildlife Club It used to be said that the Mil-ford Mil-ford valley was' unsuited to the popular ring-neck pheasants and ilthat planting of- these birds in ! this area was a mistake as they ; seemed to make no headway. This j must have been a fallacy, how-lever, how-lever, with poaching the cause for I these birds not doing well, for ! now, with farmers and. real sports-I sports-I men alike determined that poaoh-i poaoh-i ing must stop, the birds are said jto be doing wonderfully well and j the Milford valley promises , soon : to be one of the best pheasant j areas in the state, j This was the import of discus-' discus-' sion Monday evening at the regu- lar monthly meeting of the Mil-!ford Mil-!ford Wildlife Protective associa-! associa-! tion, held in the town office, with ! President Sam Clline conducting I the meeting. Everything, pointe j to a big reduction in the poaching i which has been going on in the ! South Milford section, but there is going to be no letup in efforts to apprehend and punish any and i all persons who violate the law. j In this connection, it was reported report-ed that persons occupying a car which has been traced to town ownership, had been seen doing some shooting in South Milford and the license number had been taken and reported. A warning letter has been written to the owner of the car bearing this license number, even though the shooting may have been done by some one other than the own. er, and further violation of the law will be dealt with more harshly. harsh-ly. Several South Milford and local residents have been appointed appoint-ed deputy wardens, but the constant con-stant vigil for violators of the law is not limited to them as virtually all property owners of South Milford Mil-ford are cooperating heartily in the movement. A letter from M. J. Madsen, former assistant director of the state fish and game department in charge of fisheries management, manage-ment, and now acting director, taking the place of Mark Anderson, Ander-son, resigned, was read to the club members. In it, Mr. Madsen undertook to explain the failure of the department to plant cafish and perch in the Minersville reservoir, reser-voir, and promised faithfully to have some legal-size trout planted plant-ed in the stream below the reservoir. reser-voir. This should give sportsmen of western Beavjr county some good fishing without going far away, thus conserving tires and gasoline. Amos Jackson, one of the most active cooperators among the South Milford fanners, was present pre-sent at Monday's meeting, and President Cline explained in part the procedure whereby the farmers farm-ers might set up a hunting area, which, on proper organization, would be posted at the expense of the, state, after which a single small charge for hunting in the whole area might be made, the funds so realized to be utilized uti-lized for community purposes, such as improvement of the club house I - or some similar community purpose, pur-pose, rather than attempt any division di-vision among individual property owners. Complimentary membership i cards have been issued by the association as-sociation to all farm owners in South Milford. These cards have been i-ssued by the club in appreciation appre-ciation of the cooperation of the farmers and the members of their families in the care and protection given the pheasants, and entitle them to all the rights and privileges privi-leges of paid members. i j |
