Show Witlihe Colors Mr. and Mrs. Owen R. Smith received re-ceived a wire Friday of last week from their son, Owen R. Smith jr., stating .that-he had been promoted from chief storekeeper to warrant officer rating. Owen enjoyed a nice visit with home folks and friends recently following nearly five years in navy service, and left to report at Bremerton, Washington, Washing-ton, where his latest promotion is believed to have come to him. Pa Pa Ps Douglas C. Kirk, son of Mr. and Mrs. D. E. Kirk, arrived in Milford Mil-ford Sunday for a visit with home folks and friends after an absence of two years As storekeper at an advance navy base in th,e Pacific, Doug, a 1940 graduate of Milford high school, knows plenty of the monotony and other bad features of some of these island bases and probably rates a better assignment assign-ment when he reports back for duty. p!s Pa Pa Jess McKnight, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ivan McKnight, recently wrote his folks of his promotion to pharmacists mate third class, and this was followed Tuesday by word that he had become a bridegroom. The wedding, a church affair, took place Sunday, July 9, Miss Joan Schowatka of San Francisco being the bride. No other particulars are known except that Jim Hickman, Hick-man, seaman second class, and Mrs. Hickman of Milford and some others he knew had been in attendance attend-ance at the wedding. Jess has an assignment at the San Francisco naval base hospital. ra n fa Another local boy to receive a promotion recently is LaMarr Morris, Mor-ris, who now has the rating of radioman first class. LaMarr now is stationed at San Diego. ra pa n Lieutenant Charles Class writes his parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Frazier, that he is about finished with his B-29 crew training in Florida, he being the bombardier member of the crew, and they expect ex-pect soon to make a non-stop cross-country trip to the Pacific coast. He adds that, if one of the super-fortresses should be observed observ-ed giving a little extra attention to Milford, it probably will be his plane "passing over". - F-3 f: Lynn Williams, water tender second class aboard one of Uncle Sams cruisers which has been partially disabled in action three times, and son of Mr. and Mrs. Crrin Williams, is here for a visit with home folks and friends until July 20, when he will report for a schooling assignment. Lynn rejoined his ship when it again become worthy, but his latest leave follows its being damaged dam-aged for the third time, this time by a Jap suicide plans and again with rather heavy loss of life but without injury to the Milford boy.
