Show Commission Rules ! Against Petition j To Abandon Line The interstate commerce commission com-mission Wednesday authorized the 1 Los Angeles & Salt Lake railroad to abandon a six-mile portion of its Frisco branch between Friueo ! and Newhouse, according to a dispatch dis-patch from Washington, but de- , clined at this time to permit ! abandonment of the remaining 16 j miles of the branch line between ! Frisco and Milford. This action of j the commission conftrms recom-; mendations of an examiner who i heard arguments for and against' the petition last fall in Salt Lake! City. Union Pacific interests have con-1 tended that evisting traffic over the Frisco branch does not justify j its continued operation even as far as Frisco, Ibut conflicting claims have been made by the Milford Lions club, various mining companies com-panies and livestock interests that they are looking forward to an upturn of business which will make more traffic for the Frisco branch. In order that opportunity may be afforded to find out whether this traffic actually can be developed, devel-oped, the commission ordered continuance con-tinuance of the 16-mile stretch for two years. At the end of that time, if the contemplated Ibusiness does not develop, the railroad company com-pany is given permission to renew re-new its application for abandonment abandon-ment of the road between Frisco and Milford. o |
