"The courtesy director travels almost continuously, from one end of the system to the other, observing observ-ing the relations of conductors and other members of the train crews with the public, and making such suggestions as may help them in giving cheerful service at all times", says Mr. Bacheler. The ability to smile is the greatest great-est single factor in courtesy of the kind the Union Pacific seeks among its employes, Mr. Bacheler declares. He says that he has witnessed wit-nessed a marked improvement in the attitude of railroad employes toward the public in his more than three decades of service, but there's still room for improvement improve-ment and we aim to achieve it." When promoted, Mr Bacheler was conductor on the run between Green River, W7yoming, and Huntington, Hunt-ington, Oregon. Mr. Bacheler is a native of Idaho, Ida-ho, and entered Union Pacific service ser-vice at Boise in October, 1906, as a brakeman. He later lived at Glenn's Ferry, Idaho, and now resides re-sides at Pocatello, where he has lived for the past 23 years. He is married and his daughter, Evelyn, 21, now is in nurses' training at the Pocatello general hospital. n |
