Show fflVESTOCjC SITUATION as seen at the , tjees Union ftock yards Los Angeles Union Stock Yards, March 8 Despite price ceilings on wholesale and retail meat, the active demand for comparatively small receipts of high quality cattle cat-tle has resulted in further advances ad-vances in prices. A new high top was scored for choice California-fed California-fed steers last week when $16.60 was paid. Earlier in the week, Arizona-fed steers had scored $16.25 and $16.50. Hog prices have also advanced to new high levels, the top at the Los Angeles Union Stock yards on choice butcher hogs last mid-week reaching $16.50 a cwt. Continued general rains have further improved California grass and thus give promise of providing provid-ing California markets with a fully normal volume of grass-fat beef this spring and early summer. sum-mer. Grain prospects have also been greatly improved by moisture, mois-ture, and comparatively little flood damage has been reported. Livestock markets for the most part are active although some buyers have held back due to inability in-ability to buy livestock on a basis that would permit profitable operation. Several loads of good and choice fed steers scored $16.25 to $16.50; medium to good steers $14.50 to $16; common steers at $13.50. Common and medium heifers are selling at $12 to $14.75, some good heifers up to $15.50. Common and medium cows cleared clear-ed at $10.50 to $12.50, odd head to $12.75; cutter to common cows $8.75 to $10.25, canners downward to $7.25.
