Show Firemen Plan For Big Fight Card On July Fourth i Through some miscalculation which has never been satisfactorily satisfactor-ily explained, not a single Miners-ville Miners-ville entry showed up for the box- k ing matches scheduled for last Friday night as one of the series of athletic cards sponsored by the Milford Volunteer Fire department. depart-ment. And, but for Gene Kirk an 1 the good sportsmanship of a number num-ber of C C C fellows from the west camp and a few of our town kids, there wouldn't have been very much of a show. As it was, both the big fellows and the kids cooperated co-operated to good advantage under Gene's match-making direction and another good crowd went away iairly well pleased. William Limb and Arlen Johnson, John-son, Stan Limb and Jack Kirk, Ennis Rogers and Ho Limb and Lee Rogers and Frank Holmes were three good extemporaneous kid bouts, while the Doug Kirk-Hughes Kirk-Hughes Williams match was one of the best of the evening. These youngsters, weighing 95 and 100 pounds, each carried a knockout punch in his gloves but neither was able to land at just the right time though both fought hard every ev-ery minute. The Gordon Murdock-Blaine Murdock-Blaine Covington go was a good one and also the bout between Roy Coleman and Dick Denhalter, the latter from the C C C camp. The match between Bill Dawson, local boy, and Tom Fugate from the C C C camp was a short affair with Dawson the victim of an unintentional un-intentional foul contact with Fu-gate'g Fu-gate'g knee. ' The wrestling match between Del Young, former B. Y. U. star, and Gail Trent, C C C, was one of the nicest matches seen in a long time. Trent was well-muscled, brown as a berry and apparently as hard as nails, besides outweighing outweigh-ing Young by some 18 pounds. The latter, however, was all to the good with the science and soon had Trent down for the single fall with a reverse body hold. (Continued on last page.) BigFightCard (Continued from page 1) Pete De Hardt and Wayne Tanner, Tan-ner, and Jeff Pelton and Leonard Madsen were four more C C C huskies hus-kies who were matched at the last minute and gave good accounts of themselves with some splendid boxing. Frank Holms, Tine Bingham, Bing-ham, Lee Rogers, Stan Limb, Herbert Her-bert McCulley and Wayne McClel-lan McClel-lan were the participants in the battle royal, which was another fitting finale event. Another fight card for 7 o'clock the evening of July 4th has been announced, the same to he sponsored spon-sored by the Milford. Volt ntcer Fire department, which also has charge of the Independence day celebration, but the bouts have riot yet been announced.- |
