Show Discovery Made of New Natural Bridge Discovery of a natural bridge in Utah, much larger than the famed Rainbow natural bridge in the Bee. hive state, has been announced by four men who have returned from a Colorado river trip in Arizona and Utah, according to an Associated As-sociated Press story in Sunday's Tribune. The bridge was found in a side canyon of the Escalante river in southeastern Utah, according to Bering Monroe, San Bernardino, California, and Harry Aleson, My Home, Arizona, two of the explorers. explor-ers. The opening of the new bridge is about 100 feet across and 125 feet high, they estimated, with the thickness of the structure over the center approximately 480 feet, making an over-all height of about 600 feet. The bridge is slowly being enlarged by side canyon stream action undercutting from both sides. The explorers took still and motion mo-tion pictures from both sides of the natural wonder to prove their claim. With Monroe and Aleson were Ed A. Hudson and his son, Edward, of Banning, California. They traveled by outboard motor1 from Lee's Ferry, Arizona, upstream up-stream to the Escalante river and returned the sam way. |
