Show 'March of Dimes' Drive Getting Well Underway Mrs. Ina Smith Norton has been named Milford campaign director of the annual fund appeal and march of dimes to be conducted January 14-31 by the national foundation for infantile paralysis. Edmund L. Smith is county chairman chair-man of the fund. Commenting on the need to reinforce re-inforce our lines of defense against this insidious enemy of childhood, it is stated! that the 1944 epidemic of infantile paralysis was the sec: ond worst outbreak of the disease in its history in the United States. .Fortunately, we were on the alert and well prepared to meet that attack at-tack in all parts of the nation. More than a million dollars or ten million dimes contributed by the American people were spent by your national foundation for infantile infan-tile paralysis to provide the best of modern care and treatment for all victims of the epidemic. Since no one knows where, or how hard, polio may strike in 1945, we must again be ready to meet the attack wherever it may come, it is urged. Participation in the annual march of dimes appeal is our assurance that no victim of in-, fantile paralysis will go uncared for. Receptacles have been placed in all the local stores for the purpose of collecting funds, according to Mrs. Norton, and several other activities are planned to help augment the local collection. On Monday evening, January 15, there will be given in the high school gymnasium a benefit basketball bas-ketball game. This is being arranged ar-ranged through the cooperation of Principal Kenneth C. Fairer and Coach Tye Gillins. The contesting teams will be the regular Milford1 high school basketball squad and the Minersville M-Men team. The admission charges will be 10c and 35c. The game is scheduled to begin be-gin promptly at 8 o'clock. v |
