Show Classification of Hides Hides are classified as "packer, city, or country" stock. This division divi-sion is based on the theory that less defects are found in hides removed and cured by packing houses in metropolitan met-ropolitan districts because of improper im-proper purchasing and supervision. The best grade, "packer," refers to hides of large packing houses; "city," to those from moderate size slaughter houses, and "country" to those from smaller houses or farm districts. Loose-haired animals, especially es-pecially if they are summer-bald, are preferred by tanners In making shoe leathers. The sparse hair foli-cles foli-cles lessen the separation of the skin's grain, which weakens its structure. |
