Show TilMlforb Btob School Armistice Day was celebrated in a fne patriotic spirit, the Auxiliary Auxi-liary 0f the American Legion combining com-bining with the high school for the event. The program was as follows: "Legionnaires On Parade", by high school band. Advance of Colors, Boy Scouts. Invocation, Chaplain of Post. Minute of silence at 11:00 a.m. Remarks, Leonard Bowen, Legion Le-gion commander. March, "On the Mall", high school band. Encore, "Sing Me to Sleep", band. Oratorical contest, with Thorpe Waddingham, How Limb, Shirley Altaian and Virginia Ryan participating. parti-cipating. Girls chorus, "I Love a Parade". Vocal solo, Marjorie Casterline. Clarinet quartet. Presentation of Awards, Mrs. Sam Cline, American Legion Auxiliary Aux-iliary president. Retirement of Colors, Boy Scouts. Benediction, Post chaplain. The winners of the orations were How Limb for the boys and Shirley Shir-ley Altman for the girls. The speeches were all very close and well given, and the students are to be highly congratulated for their worthy efforts. The high school opera, "Magazine "Maga-zine Princess" is to be put on in December and students have had their tryouts. Beard, Floyd Carter and Owen Smith; Julia, Theo Zabris-kie. Zabris-kie. Arthur Santell, America's Strongest Strong-est athlete, gave an amazing exhibition exhi-bition of strength and a practical lecture on health at our high school Wednesday afternoon at 3 o'clock. Mr. iSantell was an outstanding out-standing attraction at) Chicago's Century of Progress and is now under contract to demonstrate daily at the New York World's fair in 1939. Other lyceum programs for this year will be: Science Parade, Friday, December Decem-ber 16, at 10:00 a.m. Foxwell Magic, Thursday, January Jan-uary 12, 10:00 a.m. Jim Thorp, Tuesday, February 14, 1:00 p.m. Navarre Dance, Thursday, April 6, evening. ' Swiss Singers, Thursday, May 4, evening. The public is invited to attend any or all of these programs. A small admission fee of ten cents is charged. Plans for the year bcok are under way. The photographer who will take pictures for the book will be here before Christmas. We want to express our thanks to the j townspeople and the students for ! their work and attendance at the carnival. The 'one-act play produced by i the dramatic department under j the direction of Mr. Blackstock j was enjoyed by all who attended. j The students are all hoping that I Old Sol will shine brightly so that ! our building program can go on and our new shop and gym can be completed. Our hopes are high j that we can have the Junior prom I in the new building this year. The girl's volley ball tournament stands as follows: Seniors won 1, lost 2; Juniors won 3, lest 0; Soihoniores won 2, lost 1; Freshmen Fresh-men won 0, lost 3. |
