Show .AMOUNT NEEDED FOR! MEET MADE KNOWN U. P. ASKS SEVEN HUNDRED AND FIFTY AS MEET EXPENSES A letter from Union Pacific authorities authori-ties in regard to the expense entailed in having the Unit Track and Field Meet held in Milford, has been received re-ceived locally. The communication states that the sum of $750.00 will have to be provided pro-vided to insure against loss, the net cost of the meet totaling somewhere near that figure. The railway officials offi-cials are in favor of having the meet on Sunday; if held otherwise, it will mean lost time from work which will bring additional expense. The locr.l athletic club has been strongly united for holding the meet here. The support of the Lions Club has been solicited in the raising of the money. No action has been taken as yet, but a definite bid or refusal may be expected in the near future. According to local ' opinion, there would be no hesitancy in trying to get the meet here, provided the local athletic club were better equipped to handle the special events. As it is, swimming and golf contests would have to be held out of town and would mean a loss in gate receipts. A possibility of raising a healthy share of the money by a dance would also be minimized by the meet's being held on Sunday. - The Athletic club is equipped in fine style to handle part of the contests. con-tests. A tennis court has just been completed which is as good as can be found. Trap-shooting grounds and rifle range are in easy access, and a golf course will "soon be in the making. mak-ing. If the meet is not secured next year, undoubtedly Milford will be well prepared for next year and will ask for a chance to bid at that time. |
