Show i r .,, As Others Think In last week's issue of the Garfield Gar-field County News, published at Panguitch, the editor reprinted an article from the Milford News, in which were outlined the plans and activities of the Milford Mil-ford and Beaver Lions clubs in their effort to get the Bone Hollow road to Panguitch put In an improved condition. To reflect the sentiment of the Panguitch people, the editor of the Garfield County News writes as follows: MORE ABOUT THE ROAD "OVER THE HILL" The old, old question seems to be still holding fire. Meeting after af-ter meeting has been held by the Commercial club of Panguitch, Pan-guitch, and each time it has been decided that "we want a road from the monument as direct di-rect as possible to the other highway," and want it and need it just as quickly as we can get it. The road the Milford paper is speaking of is nearly all in Iron county, there is not one foot of it in the forest, as the map shows. We have roads all around us, to the north and to the south but it is a long way around for the people of Garfield county to go to get some place. We want a road as direct as possible. What we want is a highway if possible, but not a thrown-up dirt road, like our forefathers used to travel with the oxen one that will wash out each and every spring. What we want is, a road that we can go to the highway on the other side and either go north or south, just as the fancy suits us. There are a great many towns on this side of the mountains that feel the same as we do. BUT, we want a real road, and we want to know how it is going to be kept up after af-ter it is built. We appreciate the efforts the Milford and Beaver papers and Commercial clubs are making, but they only speak of a few hundred dollars being donated, when we know that the survey alone that has been made via Little Creek Peak has cost a large sum of money, and every inch, aside from a few miles on both sides, is within the forest, and if the road is built that way, with the forest service, the bureau of roads, and the state and counties, it will be looked after and kept up, and with the exception of a few storms we are told that the road can be kept open all the year around and that with some dragging the road can be kept free from snow. Now the people of this district dis-trict love the people of that dis- trict with all their hearts, but this road business is a mighty serious proposition, and once built, there is no getting away from it and we really and truly want one that will be kept up and will be standard. Of course we have not all the say, .but there is a meeting being arranged arrang-ed with the forest service, the state road commission, to be held in the near future and which ever way these people think the road should go will be Jake with us, but at the recent meeting of the Panguitch, Cedar Ce-dar City, Parowan and Para-goonah Para-goonah Commercial clubs, the clubs that are within the boundaries boun-daries of Iron and Garfield counties, it was definitely decided de-cided that "we want a highway via Little Creek peak," and the sooner the better. We believe a little correspondence correspon-dence by the clubs in Beaver county with the Commercial clubs in Iron county towns will tell them just how we feel. With all due respect, and feeling feel-ing good over the fact that Milford Mil-ford and Beaver, our dear neighbors, want a road so that we can mingle together, does not settle the fact that a great many towns on this side want a real road that they may travel north or south and that we have a great many towns over here that feel the same way. We trust that something will happen hap-pen so that we get a good road in some direction, so that we can visit all the towns, turning north or south. o |
