Show pangItch scene OF ROAD MEETING j WITH BEAVER MEN BONE HOLLOW ROAD MEETS WITH FAVOR TO TUNE OF $500 Minus a representation from Milford, Mil-ford, Heaver men went to Panguitch last Friday to discuss the proposed route from road 91 to road 8!), the much-debated short cut between Garfield Gar-field County, Heaver, the railroad and Nevada points. No delegation went from Milford because those who wore able to leave their businesses were out of town on vacations or on business matters. The Beaver men reported that an erroneous idea of the road seemed to be prevailing in Panguitch, the supposition sup-position being that the other road, via Little .Creek, would necessarily be entirely discontinued. This impression im-pression being refuted, it was said that the visiting delegation found that their ideas met with much favor. Those at Panguitch in favor of improving im-proving the road were so much im-pres.-ed that they said they would back their judgment to the extent of five hundred dollars, if a like amount were raised in Beaver county. A feature stressed by the Beaver people was that much tourist travel missed Bryce's Canyon, coming from the west from California via Ely, and not caring to be diverted by way of Cove Fort and the circle around through Clear Creek canyon. Besides the connection with the Ely highway, a point that gained much favor at Panguitch with sheepmen especially, was the providing of a closer shipping ship-ping point for stock and near a good winter range at the same time. Forest officials estimate that the road via Little Creek and Little Peak woud cost ?300,000 to build. The Bone Hollow road, with . a difference of from twelve hundred to fifteen hundred feet in elevation, would cost but a fraction of that amount, it is believed. The road in use south has an elevation of nine thousand feet; the highest points on the Bone Hollow route are seventy-five seventy-five and seventy-seven hundrd feet. Comparatively speaking, the Little Creek road is a short season route. Sentiment around Milford, while allowing the Beaver road enthusiasts to use their judgment, seems distinctly dis-tinctly in favor of raising the funds needed by popular subscription. A joint excursion over the two routes will probably be taken this Sunday by Milford and Beaver people, who will consider the feasibility of raising rais-ing and applying Beaver county money to the improvement of the short-cut. |
