She had hoped for the New Year's dinner at the older Bennets' home he would he on time hut there he was out in the garage making no move to be ready. She would not stand it! By the time she decided to go without him and called a taxi her cheeks were (lushed with Indignation. A hastily written note, pinned to the radio, the nrst place Grant would go when he came in, informed him she had gone on without him. The taxi whirled nway just as Grant came out to see why it had stopped before their wasn't only being late but the Indifference In-difference that disturbed Helen. And then all of Grant's little faults presented pre-sented themselves, so that hy the time the taxi stopped at the door of the Bonnets' Helen was enjoying an acufe case of self-pity. It suddenly occurred to Helen that she would have to make some explanation for coming without Grant. So she decided on the truth. As time passed Helen's anger cooled and the kind, thoughtful things Grant did came to her, nnd now she condemned con-demned herself as harshly as she bad him. Dinner waited as usual, although not so long as usual. But It was 9 strange Grant Bennet who stood In the doorway, his right hand raised, and solemnly announced: "1 hereby resolve re-solve on this New Year's day, to try hereafter to be on lime." The tone convinced every one that he meant It. As they all went In to the delayed dinner Grant whispered to Helen: "That note gave me an awful shock, and the ride over here was too lonesome lone-some to ever let that happen again.
