Show Model City to Rise i At Boulder Dam Site While most towns "just grow," as Topsy did, the federal government is seeing to it that the village to be constructed at Boulder Dam will materialize under scientific plans. S. R. DeBoer, Denver landscape artist appointed by the interior department de-partment to prepare plans for the town, has selected four possible sites for the model city. He has recommended the town be built on a low mountain divide about six miles from the dam. His observation indicated this divide gets the benefit of any breeze in the hot desert country and has a good view. During several weeks spent near the Nevada damsite, DeBoer had temperature radings taken on hill tops and valleys. He even interviewed inter-viewed old-timers to get their ideas about the climate. Most of the places plac-es in the valleys were found unbearable unbear-able hot. The hilltop townsites, besides be-sides being cooler and possessing more scenic attractions, offered better bet-ter possibilities for street building. o |
