Show o Road Started on St. George-Kingman Route Word has been received by C. H. Bigelow, engineer in charge of the construction work on the St. George-Kingman George-Kingman road project, that funds have been made immediately available avail-able for the road, and that work can begin at once. The county commissioners commis-sioners of Mojave county have provided pro-vided sufficient money to put the road in passable shape, and it is expected ex-pected that travel will be in operation opera-tion over the route by November 10. The road will cross the Colorado river at the old Pierce Ferry site. M. W. Musgrove has installed a two-motor two-motor ferry and barge to take care of the traffic at this point. The old ferry was installed in 1ST2 and served the pioneer settlers, miners and cattlemen for years. This was one of the early crossing points on the Colorado between Utah and Arizona. Ari-zona. Over this new route the distance from St. George to Kingman. Ariz., is about 145 miles. The distance from St. George to the new ferry is 75 miles. The ultimate purpose of this road is to give an all-year connection con-nection with Phoenix via Kingman and Wickenburg. This is the shortest short-est route between Salt Lake City and Phoenix by 120 miles, besides being the best winter route. This work will give considerable employment to local people, as all the present appropriation will be spent between St. George and the Colorado river. Supplies and equip- ment will lie furnished out of St George. |
