Christian Science "Matter" is the subject of the Lesson-Sermon, Sunday, March 22, in all C h u r c h es of Christ, Scientist, branches of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist in Boston, Massachusetts. Golden Text: Isaiah 42:8. I am the Lord: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images. The citations which comprise the Lesson-Sermon include the following from the Bible: "And whithersoever he (Jesus) entered, into villages, or cities ,or country, they laid the sick in the streets, and besought him that they might touch if it were but the border of his garment: and as many as touched him were made whole" (St. Mark 6:56). The Lesson-Sermon also includes the following correlative passage from the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," by Mary Baker Eddy: Ed-dy: "Disease is not an intelligence to dispute the empire of Mind or to dethrone Mind and take the government govern-ment into its own hands. Sickness is not God-given, nor a self-constituted material power, which copes astutely with Mind and finally conquers it" (P. 378). |
