Show aovernment Decides to Make War on Mistletoe The mistletoe which Is so closely as-;ocIated as-;ocIated with the Christmas celehra-lion celehra-lion has been found guilty and Is about to be banished from the national forests for-ests of the Pacific slope. The plant thrives wonderfully In that section of the country. Its leaves are so large and waxlike In appearance that it Is sometimes some-times commercially cultivated and great quantities shipped to the eastern states for tuletide decoration. But, as is generally known, the plant locates lo-cates on oak and other trees and In the Northwest It soon strangles Its host. Government forest rangers have started upon a crusade which will exterminate the plant by tearing out dense areas of the trailers. Six or seven years or work will be required to accomplish the purpose. The mistletoe mistle-toe growths are viewed with Interest hy tourists, and purely out of sentimental senti-mental regard, a small amount of mistletoe will be allowed to remain for the benefit of the visiting sightseers. |
