Show First Paved Road Kussia is said to be the tirst country where wood blocks were used for paving pav-ing roads. The first blocks consisted of short uniform lengths, round in shape, as cut from the tree trunks. Later the shape was altered to hexagon hexa-gon to secure a closer joint, and finally the blocks received their present rectangular rec-tangular form. This method of paving was introduced intro-duced into England about 1S3S, but some time elapsed before the value of a firm foundation, such as Portland cement concrete, was fully appreciated. |
