Deep-sea fishes are commonly black or dark brown. But although It Is claimed that light Is essential to the formation of colors some deep-sea fishes are scarlet In parts, or uniform red or rosy. Othors aro silvery w-hlto, while, according to Alcock, tho ncocopelus Is "one dazzling daz-zling sheen of purple and silver and burnished gold, amid which Is a sparkling spark-ling constellation of luminous organs." |
