Show R MADE LAST HOURS HAPPY. fl Popular Author Comforted Dying H Sailor In Hospital, 1 A pretty story about a popular B author was told tlio other day. A B nurse In nn American hospital had as H patient a sailor who was a groat suf- fcrer and not expected to llvo many H days. Tlio poor man worried a great H deal because ho thought there would be no sea In heaven. To him tho pros- 1 pect of playing on a golden flddlo of- H ferod no attraction. As the priest had B failed to comfort him, It occurred to B tho nurso that It might benefit her patient If she could get Mr. Itudyard 1 Kipling to como and talk a llttlo to H him, and as ho happened to bo visit- H ing tho hospital at tho time, Mr. Kip- ling willingly acceded to her request. H He said a few words to tho dying man and apparently gave lilm much com- H fort. A few days afterward Mr. Kip- ling Bent In his own handwriting a H copy of tho poem, "Tho Last Chantey," which the conversation with tho sailor had Inspired. The dying man was so H dollghted with It that he expressed a Hj wish for It to bo placed In his coffin, H and the nurse duly carried out his Pl wish. If Mr. Kipling's reward for his K- kind action camo In tho Inspiration ho BM obtained, Shakospcaro's well-known H description of mercy "It blosseth him H that gives and him that takes" was H justified.
