Show strictly news matter. The papers pap-ers of Wyoming and Idaho are very progressive, owing to their enterprising editors and their co-operative spirits. They believe be-lieve that after the welfare of the community and the state is looked to, societies, organizations organiza-tions and individuals, who seek to advance theories and affairs in which they are particularly interested in-terested should help to support the paper, and have laid their plans to that end. We have suggested a time or two the formation of a press association for the Southern part of Utah, but have had little encouragement en-couragement to prosecute the idea farther, having 1 heard expressions favoring it from but few of those who should be interested.. in-terested.. Wouldn't it be better to get together and have an understanding un-derstanding as to what is news and what is advertising matter, and treat such matter accordingly, according-ly, than to go on in a haphazzard way, of printing everything that people offer and taking what pay they want to extend to us for our services? We have received numerous communications- from politicians, promotors, eye doctors and others, oth-ers, boosting themselves or. their business, which they ask us to publish free in consideration of a six-bit ad they give us occasionally. occasion-ally. And that isn't all. We note that some of the papers of Utah publish them too, instead jf furnishing their readers with ?ood live local reading matter and paid ads. We cannot wake up a dead community, nor keep a live one from going to sleep by these methods. Let's get busy and form a good live press association associa-tion which will result in good for ourselves, our readers, the community and the state. Let's demand pay for all paid matter, pay our 4 help more money, get competent printers and put out papers which we, our readers, the community and the state may be proud of. Will we get busy and call a meeting, or had we better forget it? It is for the fraternity of Southern Utah to say. Anent Free Advertising The Wyoming Press Ass'n, which has just concluded its annual an-nual meeting, has served notice on the public that there will bt no more free notices run in the papers of that state which is not |
