Show SCIPIO NOTES. Dean Peterson, Chronicle Represeiv tative. Considerable grain has been hauled out of tho valley the last few weeks, to tho "West Side," and In fact to all our neighboring towns. B. L. Robins made a business trip tQ Holden last week, then to Oak CJty last Monday. .In the V. M. B. I. A. try-out debate held hero on Friday night with Oak City, the home team, w hich supported the atTlrniativo side of tho question, was the victor, according to the unanimous unani-mous decision of the thre e Judges, E. F. Pack, W. R. Thompson and Carrie Hatch. According to the reports of tho jMgea It waa no easy matter to de- rbowraa.U victor. , i 1 Tho question debated was, "Resolved, "Re-solved, That United States Senators should be elected by the direct vote of the people. Sclplo, affirmative D. F. Peterson, Orvll L. Thompson. Oak City, negative Soren Rawiln-son, Rawiln-son, Jose ph Flnllnson. After the debate the young peooie enjoyed a dance that was given under tho auspices of the M. I. A. Ray Flnllnson was the only rooter who came over with the Oak City debating de-bating team, but we really supi-ose that was not the real purpose of his coming, as he seems to have a soit place in his heart for Sclplo or at least for some people or persons who live here. Saturday afternoon the married r.in' unmarried men again clashed f ir basket ball honors, and ns usual the single fellows won out, mid are practically prac-tically acknow ledged by nil to be th-' superior to tin: married men In that line of work. Saturday night the Leamington Theatrical Company put on "The oi,i New Hampshire Home" In the local Ktage, and for an amateur troupe, eiid very well, perhaps better than was expected. Some of the playe rs were a litt'o stiff In their actions and did not i.ter Into them with he-art and soul, and forgetting their real self. But ibis lirt could only be overcome by cm-tinual cm-tinual practice, so on th. whole we will have to nckneiwleijg.. Unit tio-production tio-production was excellent, all tbii,-- being considered, ami we he-utti'y invite them to come again. In fact we welcome any of our neighbors t oi r midst In similar undertakings and w ill always have a soft place in our hearts for them. You will perhaps realize how- theatre hungry we are whe n a large audience will attend a monkey, rat and dog show, which Is to occur Tuesday night before this is In print. But when there is nothing else to go to pe-rhaps It Is permissible. Surely It seems as If the- saying of Mr. Rarnum U true as gospe-I, wh'-n he said "The Americ an public love to be humbuged." It i re-ally a wonder where the man with the tne-nage-rle ever obtained the title of Professor. Be that as it may. Nuf ed! |
