Death came as n result of old nse and general gen-eral deliility. lie was born In a small town In far away Scotland February fl, 1S2S. belim one of a larne family had learned the value and necessity of hard toll. At. twelve years of tine he went to work In the eonl jilts of his native country and continued In that work until about 20 years of age, when at that time he heard the humble hum-ble testimony of Mormon elders, and became curious to know their doctrine and after a thorough Investigation became be-came a member of the Church of Je-sus Je-sus Christ of Latter-day Sainta In the year XSVi. The father and two sons Immigrated Immigrat-ed to America at that time, and James with the rest of the family catmv the following year, settling at Pennsylvania, Pennsylva-nia, where his father and mother were stricken and died, thin leaving the children without a parent's care. At that time James became acquainted Jeanetle Snedden, who became his wife In 1849. They lived a short time In St. Louis, afterward prepared to cross the plains with ox teams and reached Salt Lake City In the fall of 1S52, members of Captain IHgby's company. They had a successful Journey, Jour-ney, as all the company came through In safety, staying only a few months In Salt Lake, then moved o I'rovo, where he was employed by Ansen Call and went to work for him at Sessions (now Hountlful). In 1S.2 tie came to Fillmore. Millard county, and remained remain-ed about three years, then came to Meadow with five other families and helped turn the desert Into a bed of roses. While here Hrother and Sister Sis-ter Ihincad were called to part with two children. When Meadow became organized as a ward Hrother Duncan was chosen as second counselor to lilshop H. H. Dennett and held that position for many years. lie was public-spirited, always on hand and willing will-ing to do hU part; he was one of the Veterans of the Indian War and !ias been receiving a pension for a number of years. Grandpa Duncan ivas a faithful Latter-day Saint, always ready to defend the truth. His leadings leadi-ngs and Tatherly counsels have been impressive for good. Death came without a struggle. He leaves a faithful and devoted wife, two sons, two daughters, 51 grandchildren grand-children and 27 great Rrandchildren. Four sons and one daughter have pre-:.eded pre-:.eded him to the great beyond. Funeral services were held at the Ward house Sunday, January 7, with appropriate singing and eulogistic nords of faithful devotions were spok-n spok-n In honor of the departed. Interment Inter-ment took place In the City cemetery. Mr. and Mrs. John Gull celebrated ;helr 4."th wedding anniversary Frl-lay, Frl-lay, January 12.
