Show to rharKe the highest rate, the people will submit to, and which will yield the greatest dividends. Success to the enterprise. i AN ELECTRIC LIGHT PLANT, P. J. Bammes, an electrical engineer, engin-eer, formerly with the electrical department de-partment of the Boston Con., mill was In town last week, looking up the proposition of putting In an electric plant for the Melville Co. The company com-pany owns a large amount of surplus Desert water and a power site to utll- Ize It. This Water would be carried down the joint canal to the flume where It would be turned back Into the river through a stand-pipe. , A fall of about 32 feet would , be utilized and the water the , company has would develop about 300 ( horse-power according to Engineer , Hammes. j The proposed plan, however. Is to , start with a unit of 175 horse-power. , The estimate cost of the plant would , be about $50,000. It would have a tur- . bine generator and about 30 miles of . line covering IMta, Oasis, Deseret and Hinckley. The current would be transmitted at 4.000 volts and sets of transformers would reduce it at the delivery end to 110 or 220 volts. To raise the funds for erecting the plant bonds would be Issued and enough money would have to be realized real-ized from the first to pay the expense of operating about $::00 per month, and Interest on the bonds. At a rate of 50 cents per light at least 1.000 I lights would have to be subscribed for c to start the enterprise. To these would d be added public lights by the differ- c ent towns and the use of the current g for power purposes. Such a plant f J could furnish cheap power for a flour- r Ing mill and elevator at Delta and 1 could be used at the cement block t works, a seed cleaning plant and other i Industries. 1 While, of course, the plan is only t being considered at present. It looks d like a good thing and the first step r will be to estimate the number of I lights that can probably be rented The company would not expect to e make money at first, but If De'.ta and is the tributary towns grow In popula-.t Hon to the size the resources of this la section Indicate ultimately a gmid li paying prospect. The beauty of theij project Is that It will be owned by oui f own home people and not by an out- side corporation, with no object but d |
