IN AND AROUND DELTA The Week's News from the Coming Metropolis A. C. Sorenson, Hiram Knight and K. S. Marshal returned this week from Salt Lake where they have been for several days buying a big stock of goods for the new firm of the Delta Mercantile and Implement Co. They Intend to occupy tho store now occupied occu-pied by A. C. Sorenson and also the adjoining frame building recently built by Knight and Marshal. They are going go-ing to have an up-to-date stock and you wnnt to look out for their big announcement an-nouncement in a few weeks. The cold weather has somewhat Interfered In-terfered with putting In the new heating heat-ing plant at the amusement hall but men are now at work on It and It will be In place in a short time. A gasoline engine has arrived for the Hotel Delta. It will be used to pump water up Into the big tank over the well from whence It will be carried car-ried to the kitchen, wash room and bath room. The cold weather seems to be over In Millard county and the snow Is rapidly rap-idly disappearing. One thing about sunny weather as we are now hav-thls hav-thls country is that a few days of ing quickly dries up tho mud and we aoon have good roads. Also that while we have had a long sioll of cold weather It hasn't been as cold as In Colorado, Wisconsin, Idaho and many other slates nor has It done any damage dam-age here. The temporary frame structure to be occupied by the Chronicle printing office will be completed In a few days. Since the break in the cold weather most of the contractors have resumed work on the big canal and work will now go forward without Interruption. The play Is an Interesting one with a combination of comedy, sentiment and tragedy that wai well portrayed by tho performers. per-formers. The comedy parts were well presented by Wm. Vnndevanter, as "Mike Mullins," and Kliza Hook as "Tilly," the old maid. Pert Wallace's makeup as "Edward Van Dusen" was excellent and he took the part of the villain In a very realistic manner. Lemira Bishop's characterization of "Muffins" was excellent and her distinct dis-tinct enunciation was especially to be commended. Cassie Hiding's, In the character of "Mrs. Win (.limp, showed a thorough understanding of the part. The club desires to express their appreciation of the work of James Steele In couching them In their parts. Mr. Steele Is an old actor and thoroughly understands the business busi-ness and was able to render them much assistance. The club will repeat the performance S.iturday night and should draw out another good audience. audi-ence. Cass Lewis has finished double-planking double-planking the bridge West Delta and It Is now In first class condition. The Delta company is also repairing the bridges on their tract and putting In a number of new ones. McClaln & Copenlng have been busy the past week showing visitors over the country and report everyone enthusiastic en-thusiastic over the showing made. Ev-eryone Ev-eryone who has the money becomes a buyer and those who haven't propose to get in as soon as possible. About thirty out of town visitors registered in Delta this week. Among them were eleven from California, all of whom are or will be buyers. Dr. W. W; Stockham. late of Ploche. is now a resident of Delta. He his part of his stock of drugs here and will begin the erection of his store building build-ing In a few days. Those who require his professional services will find him at the Hotel Delta. Ills card appears in another column. Attorney James A. Melville has been In Delta this week on legal business. Mr. Melville has an office In Halt Lake but does a great deal of legal work In Delta and as soon as he can get an office will spend most of bis time here. Dr. Murphy has been Interesting himself to getting a free traveling library li-brary for Delta and the first box of 870 volumes has arrived and is at Dr. Murphy's. Tuesday evening a temporary tempo-rary organisation of a library club was formed. For the present the member- I ship fee is fixed at 25 cents. The only expense Is the freight charges on the I books to and from Salt lake. When : the membership fee do not cover this expense a small assessment of ten or : fifteen rents will be levied. Any mem. ber can borrow a book for two weeks.
