Show MILLARD ACADEMY ENTERTAINS Prepares Enjoyable Entertainment for Grown-ups of Commimity.--250 Participants Last Saturday was an eventful day at the Millard Academy. More than 220 parents gathered at the Academy and there proceeded pro-ceeded to celebrate their generosity gener-osity in aiding the Domestic Science Sci-ence Department with a fine new range. At two o'clock the 'auditorium was filled and an interesting program pro-gram was carried out. The Misses Mis-ses Damron and Sawyer rendered render-ed a pleasing piano duet and Professor Pro-fessor Bailey and Co. gave an enjoyable en-joyable musical selection. Principal Prin-cipal McClellan explained the occasion oc-casion of so many being gathered gather-ed and pointed out reasons for believing that the Millard Academy Acad-emy is in every way deserving of the liberal support and patronage pat-ronage of the people of Millard County and surrounding districts. Edw.-Leo Lyman of Oak City, Stake Supervisor of Parents Classes, made the presentation speech in which was given to the School the new stove. For clever clev-er originality this speech deserves deser-ves an honored place in print-to print-to recall it is to smile. In order to make its possession doubly sure Pres. Hinckley formally accepted ac-cepted the stove. Following this program every one marched through the Dept. and took a peep at the fine large range which they had helped to make a part of the institution's equipment. And then to the gymnasium. Out of consideration for W. F. Pratt and the West Siders i! ought to stop here but fair play eonpels me to relate the one-sided story. Whether Jos. Finlin-son, Finlin-son, of Oak City or some hidden rabbit foot or other jinx, i3 to blame is what Bro. Pratt would like to know. At any rate he is on the look out for the whole bunch. But think of it! Three pennants were offered and every one of them was hooked by those fellows from the East side, with the help of their wives. What do we mean by the East Side?) Well this time we mean all who live east of the railroad. You see, Jos. Fyilinson was Captain for all those who habitually eat their meals on the east side of the track while Wm, F. Pratt seved in like capacity for those on the other side of the rails. Bishops hustled along behind little pieces of crayon with a match to get them across the floor ahead of the other bishops. Sunday School Superintendents tried to keep their heads while they added columns of troublesome trouble-some figures and then panted hastily along with a round little peanut on the end of a knife. John Avery Bishop of Delta, made record breaking time, but when the results of his addition were examined, well but he begged me not to tell. Kindergarten Kinder-garten songs and games were indulged in-dulged in in a way that would have tickled the real kindergarteners kindergar-teners to death.. And that basket-ball relay race! Whether the West Siders had too big feet or too short strides or just couldn't could-n't see straight it does not matter, mat-ter, but you couldn't make them ; think that the other side did'nt fudge, else how could they win twice in succession? Then the : obstacle race! My sides hurt yet ; from laughing. Joe Finlinson had a hand in that too, as he did ' also in the ladies volley ball : game. Even Pres. Hinckley, 1 though supposed to be neutral and a judge of events, feels a little raspy when he thinks of that game and Bro. Joseph's part in it. Of course it wras all , fair, who said it wasn't? Just , good managing, that's all. The men's basket ball game? Oh, just forget that. The West side ' didn't want any pennants this time anyway, but you fellows 1 over there, just look out for the next time. Why, you even rung in the Chronicle Editor on us. ' Reporter. |
