Show Better Babies Contest As a result of the "Better Babies Contest" held at the Co. Fair in Deseret, the highest ' award is made to the little daughter of J. E Works of Delta. Her score was 99. Second place was won by the 11 mos. old son of C. H. Anderson, the Hinckley druggist. This contest was notan ordinary Pretty Baby show, in fact good looks were not counted for or against a contestant. Their places were won by points based upon a thorough physical and mental test as compared with the normal child of the same age. For convenience the babies were divided into three grades as follows: 1st." Babies under twelve mos. 2nd. Babies from 12 to 24 " 3rd. " " 24 to 42 " There were 44 entrants, with the following babies taking 1st and 2nd places in the order named. 1st Grade: Dee Anderson Hinckley 98 8-11 Baby Whitehead Hinckley 98 4-11. 2nd Grade: Maxine Works, . Delta 99. Delna Stewart, Hinckley 96.3. 3rd Grade. Ross Ward Robinson, Delta 97.3 r v Nelson Wallace, Delta 96.3 The average score was 94.2 which is doubtless high, but it must be remembered that there was a small number presented on account of the contest being poorly advertised. We feel that it has been a splendid success from every point of view. The mothers were all enthusiastic abbut the contest and promise loyal support for any such event in the future. It is the ambition of the directors of the contest to open another next spring on a large scale and hold a Mother's convention in connection with it. If possible outside men who are specialists will be induced to be present to give some instructive lectures. If you wish a good Thanksgiving Thanks-giving Dinner, get your wife a Monarch Range, at the Delta Furniture Store. |
