Miss Ariel Wood, the popular clerk at Daniron & llawleys has gone to Hidden and when she returns It will be as Mrs. Fenny. The many friends of the young people wish them long life and much happiness. A. I). Kyan of the Kelly Ryan Realty Real-ty Co., reports a good business In fiirm lands. They are making salesi every week and the buyers are mostly Salt Lake and Ogden people. They have mi office In the Kearns building, build-ing, Salt Lake, and one of them Is there all the time. People only need to see their lands and price to become be-come buyers. Nels Peterson, who recently sold his farm near Deseret, has bought the lluTf hotel at Duals. Mrs. Damion and daughter Luetic have gone to Salt Luke and Plain City for a few weeks' visit. Illshop I ia in ion also took a business trip to Salt Lake. Irwin McDowell of Provo had quite an experience last week, lie left Deseret Des-eret in the morning to go to Osceola and Fly on his seven horse power motor cycle. He got lost ou the desert, des-ert, about 75 miles out, and hud to lay out all night In a canyon with neither food or water. He ban enough gasoline to get back to Deseret Des-eret next day completely exhausted. After resting up a day and getting more explicit directions ho started out uguln confident that he would get through all right. A man has considerable con-siderable nerve to tackle so long a Journey through the desert. The people of Ieseret are a pretty public spirited lot. They get out every ev-ery Sunday and fix up the streets, clean the ditches, repair the roads and crossings and put the town In ptojn'.'tVUwaupe., The reUt I lira the luukea a favoru"i lir.i'res" ioaot; . i'vi. T"'' tolu "'t Up. r .', . . corpomteitodnd ha tiy revenue, Tnjy , . , have fixed up their amusement park In good shaiw and In a few years will have a nicely shaded park. Public spirit and united effort will accomplish accom-plish wonders for a town. IBS OF OUR NEIGHBORS 1 ' Rounds p t fhe presence f spring Is much more manifest In Hinckley thnn lu Delta, There are trees and lawns Wi1 gardens to put on their verdant garments, while the air Is full of the odor of bud and blossom. Nearly everyone ev-eryone Is putting out trees and the Mew streets will In a few years be shady avenues. There are a number num-ber of nice lawns, but the nicest one U Win. Walkers' on Main street. There may he others Just as nice but the editor didn't happen to see them. The blossom luden fruit trees In Joseph Wake's front yard are also notice eblo. I fThe ditches in and around Hinckley Hinck-ley are In excellent condition and we saw no mud puddles in the street as one sees in iH'lia. The Hume across the streets are also sound and substantial. substan-tial. A good many concrete head gates have been put In. Some notice should have been given giv-en the public that the bridge across the canal southwest of the Valley Orchard Co. 'a land had been taken out and the road was Impassable. The road to Hinckley now runs south along the canal beside th" brickyard to the main county rond running strafight west to Hinckley. There Is also a bad crossing on this road that needs fixing. That Is one thing we are all deficient In good bridges and crossings. No expensive work is required re-quired anywhere; Just a few dollars worth of lumber and the prompt expenditure ex-penditure of a few day's labor would flx them all up. if the first break lu grossing was promptly repaired it would save expense and often prevent pre-vent a breakdown, t. 4(nng the other seasoni-hle goods of ladles' shirt waists, skirts und dress goods. The firm carries such a big stock of goods that you are sure to always find Just, the quality and price of goods you want. They rre doing a bigger business than ever and Mr. Pratt says they do less credit business than formerly, show'ng that there Is more money In the county. John Argue Is a newcomer from California who Is preparing to make his home In Hinckley. He hns built a house for Joseph .Wilson on Ins ranch west of town and th family moved out there this week. He has also built a house for Mr Foulk, !noher California man who with his iiiide will try farming at IlincHey. Oolden, the lively young son of H. I". Wright, fell ofr the fence a few li.vs ago and broke one of the bones it bis leg below the knee. He wont able to run around for a couple if weeks, but that will be the uos; icrlous result of the accident ' We found George Hillings of :- J 1 l.nckley Co-op. opening up several i1 uses of Ivory and cameo i pumi-lej 1 1 vare, a new thing In cool liu; uteri j' l s. It Is a big improve men; over ! inlihfirv granite war" an J Is no more ' Xpenslve. They have also been d.i ' ng a big bu'iness in I'til'ed St 'Hes " eparators, having sold teti within th" ist week or so They have Juki nut u another lot. This seems to be the ' avorlte niachi'M for the fmim t Hi 1 'i t'ction. We found D. A. Flanigan, the wind ' ill! man at the blacksmith shop busy ' rylng out a new pump he has just uvented. It is a very simple con-rtvance con-rtvance having no pinion, pump rod ' r auction valve. Nothing but a heck valve operated by the weight 1 nd Inertia of the water. He tells us hat the Aeriel Power and Navigation '(. is having some wind mills made ' t Ogden and will have them on the larket in a short time. A large num 1 er of people around Hinckley have k ut Id orders for mills. Hinckley Isn't quite as lively ap " earing since the academy students nd faculty have gone but everybody b Mmi to be happy. r Next Friday, May 24b, a mother's " rograin will be given to the married " idles of Hinckley, to which they are r II invited. It will b held In the v fternooii and the program will be ;uslrl aad literary In character, and 1 inch will be served In th evening dunce will be given with good music g i attendance. The committee hav- t ig the affair In charge consists of fi lary Cropper, Sylvia Stout, Kmmel le Stapley, Kdlth Reeve and Mabel. Wright. Come out and have a good time, N. K. Lewis, the expert harness maker, Is always busy when the editor calls and never has any complaints com-plaints of hard times. When he Isn't busy making or mending horse millinery mil-linery he la repairing footwear. He says be has a good market for his celebrated harness, single and double cinch saddles, horse blankets, collar pads, bridles, etc. Hoy Jolce, who recently came here from California, thinks the cUniale here superior to that of the Golden State, and likes the country well We don't find any of the newcomers making mak-ing any complaint of Hinckley. As the country around Hinckley be. comes better known the demand for farms has Increased and prices have gone up. A few years ago people wouldn't look at land west of Hinckley, although It was offered for Jin per acre. Now It sells readily for $50. James Stapley and family are leaving leav-ing Hinckley to make their home In Kannarra. We regret losing such citizens and wish them success in their new home. Dr, Itroaddus' new drug store will soon be equipped- to do a hot weather business. He Intends to iut In a hoila water fountain and carry ice cream, and will doubtless do a good busluetis, lly the way, this Is one of the drug stores in the county where a man can't get a dose of whiskey by simply saying that he lias a cramp In the stomach. The doctor can do all the business he wants to without with-out running liquor on the side. Miss Vera Carter of Provo, has been visiting friends In Hinckley. Mrs. lien Mlack Is visiting her sister, Mrs. Madge Robinson. Miss Kdna Cropper has gone to American Fork to vinit friends. The road I nun Hinckley to Deseret Des-eret and on to Oasis Is the only good piece of road making we have seen on the west side. The roadway is rounded up so It will shed water so there wj!l tu,lver, bu ,ny,r d. rig-r of mud iidles. 'A fia'tf drag one lu -a while will keep It In . good condition all the year round. The expense is not heavy and once fixed It will stay, that way. We wish a few roads around Delta could be fixed that way. William lllack's orchard Is a 'bow er of sweetness and beauty. Ills ap pie, pear and crab trees and currant bustles are loaded as full of blossoms as they will hold, and If no frost comes he should have a large crop of fruit. Frost is the only drawback for fruit raising In this valley. A killing frost is likely to come the lasl two weeks of May, which means ruin to fruit. .The ears that frost does not come V good crop is assured. The farmers of Millard county believe be-lieve in good horses and many good -.talllona for bleeding purposes have been Imported. The finest stallion stal-lion we have seen for general purposes pur-poses Is Virgil Kelly's French coach lie has Just brought In from California. Califor-nia. It was Imported from France U a cost of $::i;im by Mr. Kelly's broth-r, broth-r, recently deceased In California, t weighs about 13Mi, Is a bay with i coat like satin, and Is good for rid ng, driving or neavy work. He Is senile ss a kitten and carries him-t him-t If like the king of beasts. Although Mrs. Dan Ulack has a iiiall store, she does a aurprlsingly arge business. She finds her quar ers cramped and will enlarge the tore this summer, also putting arge plate glass window. While she peclall7.es on millinery and dress ;oods she also handles a line of geti-ral geti-ral merchandise. Judging by the arge amount of millinery business she i loes she evidently suits the ladies' , asten to perfection. W. II Western Is the only black- ' mith In Deseret, Nick Faust hav- ' ng left. We always find him busy ihenever we come to Ieseret. He ! horoiighly understands his trade and 1 nows how to do good work. We found nearly everybmly worked ' p over the scarcity of water. No ' ne could tell the reason for it. There ' , plenty of water In the big n ser olr and there is more snow in the ' lountalns than for thirty years yet iiere Is not enough coming down the iver to fill the canals. It looks like 1 ery bad management somewhere, ' Mr. and Mrs. Ryan are now tx-ru ying part of William Black s house Miss Norma Moody celebrated her ixteenth birthday last Friday by en rtaining a number of her young rirnds.
