Show Abraham Holds Court at Delta both .criminal and civil damage suits. The criminal suit will probably be held in Delta the last of this week on a change ol venue and the civil suit will go direct to the-distriet court at the next term. Without passing judgement on either side, we will say that such affairs are exceedingly bad advertising ad-vertising for any community and we believe that if a little more patience were shown, a little more consideration of the other fellow, a little more give and take and a little less desire to fling the gauntlet in the other fellow's face, were manifest, there would be little friction and much happier communities and commonwealths. An affair which we are sorry to have- to relate brot about every one in the vicinity of Abraham Abra-ham into Delta and kept them here for the entire da'y either as witnesses or spectators to a trial preferred by Prof. Jones of .the Abraham schools against T. Paine Franklin on the charge of disturbing the peace at a dance at the school house on April the 19th. The charge, as preferred accused-Mr. Franklin of swearing, yelling, stamping on the floor and attempting incite a disturbance. disturb-ance. About 75 persons of Abraham Abra-ham were present and there were nine witnesses summoned to substantiate the charge and 23 brot into court as rebutal evidence evi-dence by the plaintiff. ' Evidence was introduced by the plaintiff which showed that the above condition of affairs existed ex-isted during the dance while the defence introduced evidence to show that nothing out of the way nore than ordinary took place. The trial was held before Judge Faust and Atty. J. Alex Melville acted at council for the defense and County Atty, King prosecuted prose-cuted the case. The day was spent in taking testimony, most of which was immaterial, and the attorneys finished with about an hour's argument later in the afternoon. A jury of four consisting con-sisting of- S. W. Eccles,. Chas. MeClain, A. C; Sorenson and C. E. Stewart brat in a verdict of not guilty after a short deliberation, delibera-tion, after which most of the Abraham people wended their way home, but some stayed for the picture show. As near as we can learn there had been some friction between various parties relative to entertainments enter-tainments for some time and this was the culmination of this matter. Mr. Jones gave a dance and entertainment in the school house and extended invitations to the people of the neighborhood neighbor-hood to be present. The case was brot to Delta on a charge of venue by Mr. Franklin, Frank-lin, there having originally been four parties mentioned in the indictment, in-dictment, namely Frank Lake, Albert Reed and Wilson Biehler, who pleaded guilty, paid their fines and were discharged. I As an after effect of the trouble at the dance Prof. Junes I claims that he w as stopped on his road home and taken from his buggy by force and thrown into the ditch by Franklin, Biehler Bieh-ler and Lake, and has alwady Lrun uctiun against them in |
