Show ISlack flock MRS. MERRILL MILLER Early Resident Returns For Visit Mrs. Clara Raht Schindler of Bremerton, Bre-merton, Washington was a recent visiter at Black Rock. She was the guest of Mr. and Mrs. Hampton Burke. Mrs. Schindler is on the last leg of her trip around the United States when she stopped off at Black Rock. Mrs. Schindler came to this part of Utah in the summer of 1879. Her parents and family came West frnm Rnltimnre. Marvland to Salt Lake City. From there they went to Nephi which was the end of the railroad. From there they went by wagon to Frisco, Utah, where her father was being sent as a mining engineer. As a girl, she went to the first school in Frisco. School was started start-ed the 'fall of the year in which her family arrived in that old mining min-ing town. Later the family came to Black Rock and took up part of what in now the Black Rock Ranch. A short time later they left Black Rock and this is the first time she has been there since they left in 1896. Mrs. Schindler, well in her 80's, is remarkaNey active and retains a very keen mind. One incident she recalled was a trip they made to Salt Lak City. They went in a caboose from Frisco to Milford, from there to Oasis they were in ia mixed train, and 'finally in Oasis were they able to transfer to a passenger train which would take them to Salt Lake. She is one of the few persons alive who is able to recall the early days of that roaring mining oamp, and she was happy to recall the events from time to time about the early history his-tory of that town. Mrs. Schindler is a sister of Mrs. Wialter James, and an aunt of Mrs. Hampton Burke and Mr. Merrill Miller, of Black Rock. Mr. and Mrs. Merrill Miller retum-from retum-from Salt Lake City where they have spent the past few days on business. Mr. and Mrs. Hampton Burke were in Delta to attend the IOOF dinner. They reported a very enjoyable en-joyable time. Hampton Burke was installed as Patron of the Ruth Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star which is located in Milford. |
