Stevens and Company, Delta, is in Wichita, Kan sas, this week tor a heating and ! air conditioning school offered by j the Coleman Company, Inc. Mr. Bishop is one of 36 retail representatives selected by the Wichita manufacturer for special instruction in the classrooms and laboratories of the nationally known heating institute. The purpose of the school is to acquaint dealers with the newest developments in the field of home heating. The group also will study appli- - cation engineering and merchand-- I ising methods. Will Eiiijrov Delta Cemetery The Delta cemetery committee met on Wednesday night of last week and elected to build a new building at the cemetery to house equipment of a new pump and tank. A pump, and a 1000-gallo- n tank will be installed there in the near future. The tank will be capable to supply ten hoses at once. It will connect with the present reservoir on the hill above the cemetery . It was also voted to extend the water systems that are already in at the cemetery. Through having the water avail-able on a larger system, people will be encouranged to plant more lawns, shrubs and flowers on their plots. Fay Walker has been made the new caretaker and sexton. The cemetery committee wishes to encourage the public to clean up the cemetery and to cooperate with the committee in keeping it clean and sightly. Indoor Sports At Palomar Opens Hay 10 The MIA summer recreation pro-gram will get started this Satur-day, May 10, at the Palomar. The Palomar will be open for your entertainment in the way of vol-ley ball, badminton, ping pong, carom, checkers, or any other in-door sport you care to play. Teams and tournaments will be organiz-ed at a later date if competition betwen individuals and wards is desired. This recreation program in the Palomar is being planned in con-junction with the Softball league which will be started in the near future. It is hoped that a lighting system will be installed on the field this year in order to have the Softball league play night games. The Palomar will be open-ed at least once a week for these indoor sports and the dates will be announced weekly in the Chron icle in order to keep you informed. This program is being sponsored by the stake MIA board for the purpose of offering entertainment of iall kinds throughout the sum- - mer. The young and old alike are encouraged to participate in this program, so we'll see you all at the Palomar on May 10. HHS Sponsors Annual Rodeo Friday, May 9 The Hinckley high school will stage an amateur rodeo at the Hinckley rodeo grounds on Friday, May 9 at 8 p. m. This will be the second rodeo sponsored by the school to raise funds to build up and improve the athletic depart-ment. Featured at the show this year will be bareback riding, bull rid-ing, calf roping, wild cow milking, girls' steer riding, exhibition oalf roping, and novelty stunts. Three clowns, Cloyd Theobald, Jay Mc Donald and Sheldon Christensen will furnish plenty of laughs for the crowd. The rodeo will be presented with a grand entry of all the par-ticipants, then a junior and senior exhibition. Participants taking part in the various events include the follow-ing students of the school: Darrel Taylor, Dale darling, Sheldon Chris tensen, Cloyd Theobald, Billie Tal-bot, Gerald Damron, Sherlene Tal-bot, Carol Keller, Lowry Bishop, Neil Swensen, Jay Mc Donald, Jay Draper, Delyle Bennett, Gale Ben- - nett, Joe Nielson, Robert Blanch, Mario Morris and Bob Judd. The following prizes have been offered the students: Buck Young, of Richfield will give a trophy to the best cowboy, George Talbot, a pair of Levis, Deseret Cash Store, Levis, D. Stev-ens Co., a jacket, Delmart, saddle pants, Golden Black and. Son, a flashlight, Carl Ashby, cash, Reed Turner, two belt buckles, Drive-i- n 3 dozen Spudnuts, Love's Service Station, a grease job, Blake's Ser-vice' Station, 10 gallons of gas, Sunrise Dairy, a gallon of ice-cream, Harold R. Morris Store, a girl's Levi jacket, Reeve's Store, a box of choclates, Brooklawn Creamery, 5 pounds of cheese and Baker Pharmacy, a gift. The rodeo committee consists of Sheldon Christensen, chairman and Cloyd Theobald, Darrel Taylor and Dale Carling, committee members. Queen tryouts for the rodeo were held Tuesday, May 5. Participants were Margene Hilton, Carol Keller, Lyla Rae Talbot, Verlene Stevens, Paula Workman, and Shirley Davis. Lyla Rae Talbot was chosen with Shirley Davis and Paula Work man as attendants. Oasis Garden Club Slates Bazaar May 8 The Oasis Garden Club will hold a bazaar on Thursday, May 8, at 8 p. m. in the Oasis ward church house. Two silk quilts will be auction-ed off as well as a silk baby quilt, cushions, scarves, pillow slips, and many other articles. Special arran-gements have been made for an-other silk quilt and three other articles. A program has been ar-ranged and everyone is invited to attend and make the bazaar a success. Proceeds of the sale will be used for the project of land-scaping the Oasis church grounds. Pvt. Joe Stewart has returned to San Francisco, after a furlough spent in Delta with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Glen Stewart. It was his first visit home in more than two years, as he had b?en station-ed on Okinawa during that time. His father and sister, Carol Stew-art, drove him to San Francisco when he returned there April 26. He was on a bus in San Francisco when he was hailed by Cpl. Ron-ald Wilkins and Pfc. Donald Wil-kin- s, twin sons of Mr. and Mrs. Heber .Wilkins of Delta. The boys had a reunion, their first since they enlisted together in October, 1950, and trained at Fort ORD. The twins are leaving May 20 for ser-vice in Alaska again for a few months. ' Test Pressure Cookers May 11 A pressure cooker testing dem-onstration will be held Wednes-day, May 14, at 3 p. hi. in the Delta hot lunch room for the three Delta wards. Everyone with a pressure cook-er is invited to come, and bring their cookers for the test. It is necessary to have cookers tested, and the test May 14 will be the last for this year. ACS Fund Brive Nearly Complete The fund campaign for the Am-erican Cancer Society, conducted through April, is nearly completed. A report will be given when all community returns are in, by Mrs. Irene Little, drive chairman. West Millard has given a gen-erous response, according to field workers, and Mrs. Little expects the quota of $650 will be reached and exceeded. Mrs. Ivan Wright spent a few days in Provo last week. Mr. Cluff Talbot, and Dean Tal-bot spent Tuesday in Salt Lake City where they are being given medical treatment. Kitchen Shower For Third Ward Delta Third ward Relief Society is sponsoring a kitchen shower and special party for Tuesday, May 13, at 2:30 p. m. All members are invited to attend, and gifts to furnish the kitchen of the new Third ward building and Deseret stake house will be welcomed. This is the first meeting and work day to be held in the new building, and will be marked as a special occasion. Mrs. Lucille Stephenson is on the program to give a demonstration on beauty culture, poise and posture. Mr. and Mrs. Duane Stanworth recently returned to Delta and are making their home .on their farm north of Delta. North Platte, Neb., recently re-ceived the "Good Neighbor" aw-ard of a large bouquet of flowers on the "Here's Flowers to You" program over radio station KODY.. She sent the news in a letter to her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Evan Johnson, Delta. Letters from neighbors, including one from the superintendent of school's wife, and the mission pre-sident's wife, recommended Mrs. Fidel, (the former Eddis Johnson) for the award. They commended her for the help and happiness she gave her neighbors, and one said Mrs. Fid-el's motto was "If I'm not doing something for some one else I'm not accomplishing anything for my self, either". Oasis Mr La Veda Bishop Peter A. Peterson returned home Tuesday after fived ays in Ogden, visiting his children, Mr. land Mrs. L. A. Peterson. While there he at-tended the wedding reception of his granddaughter, Marlene, who is married to Glen Carlson. On Wednesday Nella and Jeff went to Salt Lake City, and Friday evening Pfc. Car-ter left for his base at Langley Field, Va., and Nella returned home Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Kent, of Salt Lake City, came Saturday to visit their daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Glen Skeem. They left early Sunday to see about their home as news reports said the flood waters were near their neighborhood. So their visit was ' cut short l Sunday evening the Primary As-sociation held their conference pro gram. All of the children took part and gave ran "excellent program. Pres. Clara Peterson conducted the program. Mrs. Leona Anderson was their leader. Mrs. Mary Johnson, of the stake board, was present. Earl Stanworth was taken to the veterans' hospital in Salt Lake City Monday. He is quite ill at this time. Mrs. Angus Twitchell is a med-ical patient at the Delta hospital. Post 89 Calls Meeting Monday Post 89, American Legion, will meet Monday evening, May 12, at 8 p. m. in their hall on Sugar Fac-tory Row. The purpose of the meeting is to organize the program for Mem-orial Day. Clair Gardner, Jr., has returned home after four years service in the U. S. Navy. He was released at San Diego May 3. For the past 18 months he had served in Japan and Korea. This week he is going to Salt Lake City, to visit his bro-ther, Junior Gardner, and on to Pocatello, to see another brother Schuyler Gardner. Miss Dorothy Skidmore, from Los AJigeles, arrived home Tuesday to visit her ' parents, Mr. and Mrs Albert Skidmore. She was accom-panied by Sgt. Joe Farley, USMC recently returned from action in Korea. They will go to Salt Lake City later in the week and from there Sgt. Farley will g0 to Indi-anapolis to visit his family |
