Show Deer Season Is Going Full Blast The deer hunt got off to a running run-ning start Saturday and continues the same way. Almost everyone was out in the hills after the wily buck for the weekend, and more venison was transported through town than folks could keep track of. The deer hunt is good, according accord-ing to Eb Stapley, game warden. He gave no figures as to how many deer have been taken so far, but the hunt is successful, he said. At Oak City checking staation the record re-cord is about 50-50 does and bucks. At Whiskey Creek and 8 Mile the check is 8 to 1 in favor of the bucks. Nels Brumley checked at the Oak City station Saturday with a 204 pound buck, the largest ever checked there. Among other large ones were those brought in by Or-vill Or-vill Jeffery, 185 lbs., Ferron Bliss, Ken Cahoon and Leon Dalley. Merlin Christensen had two by 7:30 a.m. Grant Christensen home on furlough for the hunt, got a 4- point buck. Dr. M. A. Lyman was home by 11 a.m. Saturday with his deer. And others report that their bucks are still frolicking about the hills, such as Frank Beckwith and Dr. M. E. Bird, though Doc says he did shoot one in the horn. Bud Fullmer, Delta high school star athlete, knocked himself out cold getting his buck. He was pursuing pur-suing the wounded animal when he fell off a small ledge, landed on his head and took the count. He bit his tongue in the excitement, excite-ment, and had to be brought into town for three stitches. But he went back and got his deer out. Bill Carmaack, here from Fred-erickstown, Fred-erickstown, Mo., for the deer hunt with the Munsters, sent home two white tails to a fishing friend who ties flies. |
